The purpose of this Act is to amend the Equal Opportunity Act 1995 to alter the governance and complaint-handling arrangements for the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission.

The main purposes of this Act are to—
(a) amend the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 to— (i) alter the

and (ii) remove the Commission’s power to
conduct public inquiries and amend the
Commission’s powers to conduct
investigations; and
(iii) alter the exceptions relating to religious
bodies and schools and standards of
dress and behaviour in schools; and
(iv) insert exceptions relating to youth
wages, accommodation that is
unsuitable for children and clubs
established principally for political
purposes; and
(v) clarify the relationship between
reasonable adjustments and disability
standards made under the Disability
Discrimination Act 1992 of the
Commonwealth and determinations
made under section 160B of the
Building Act 1993; and
(vi) make miscellaneous amendments to
improve the operation of the Act; and
(b) amend the Electoral Act 2002 to permit the
Victorian Electoral Commission to
discriminate on the basis of political belief or
activity in relation to employment.

The main purposes of this Act are to amend the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 to alter the governance arrangements for the Commission and the powers and functions of the Commissioner, remove the Commission’s power to conduct public inquiries and amend the Commission’s powers to conduct investigations, alter exceptions relating to religious bodies and schools and standards of dress and behavior in schools, and insert exceptions relating to youth wages, accommodation that is unsuitable for children and clubs established principally for political purposes. It also aims to clarify the relationship between reasonable adjustments and disability standards made under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 of the Commonwealth and make miscellaneous amendments to improve the operation of the Act. Additionally, it amends the Electoral Act 2002 to permit the Victorian Electoral Commission to discriminate on the basis of political belief or activity in relation to employment.
